Fortnite’s Chapter 3 Season 2 have Building disabled, now I want to play
/Epic Games’ ever famous battle royal shooter Fortnite launched Chapter 3 Season 2 with a big twist in gameplay as the default battle royale game mode will have the game’s signature Building mechanic disabled. A surprise change that left me interested in giving the free-to-play shooter another try.
Titled ‘Resistance’, the latest plotpoint in this ever-growing free-to-play shooter has Fortnite players at a disadvantage as their ability to build anything on the spot is no longer available to them, making the default game mode of Fortnite just another battle royale shooter, and that’s appealing change.
What made the game unique and popular is what made me walk away from the shooter when it was released years ago. The thought of shooting another player would result in them building a fort around them for protection wasn’t for me as your ability to utilize the Building mechanic to your advantage is the name of the game to find success in Fortnite. To see Epic Games remove such a brand-defining feature makes me wonder if more risks to the game’s formula will happen to keep Fortnite more relevant each season.
The absence of Building resulted in some changes to gameplay as well. Players will now have an Overshield on top of their health and regular shield, and a player’s default movement speed and sprint have increased. There are more parkour-like movements at your disposal and players can now open doors while on the go thanks to the addition of the shoulder bash. More weapons are added and tanks are now a thing.
Those who still want to play the game with Building available can do so with the game’s other game modes such as competitive, arena playlists, team rumble, creative islands, and Save the World as the default battle royale game mode is the only one affected by the big changes this season.
It’s a nice change, a change that adds even more variety to those that want to play the game a certain way. Of course, the removal of the Building mechanic in the default game mode is most likely a season-only thing, but with enough interest, Fortnite players might get a new permanent game mode in the near future.
Epic Games also announced that from now to April 3, 2022, all proceeds from the game will be donated to humanitarian relief to aid those affected by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
