Mass Effect Trilogy Director Casey Hudson’s Studio Shuts Down

Humanoid Origin, a Canadian-based studio founded by Mass Effect trilogy director Casey Hudson in 2021, has announced that they are shutting down.

It was announced through the studio’s LinkedIn post,

Earlier today, we informed our staff that Humanoid Origin will be shutting down. Despite efforts to shield the studio from broader challenges in the industry, an unexpected shortfall of funding left us unable to sustain operations.

We’re heartbroken that we will not be able to bring our new science-fiction universe to completion. Our main concern at this time however is for our team, and we are committed to supporting them in their transition to new employment.

In our time together, the team achieved incredible progress, and demonstrated that it's possible to do amazing work while fostering a culture of fun and creativity. We thank them for their talent, courage, and friendship.   Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our journey.

The studio was working on its first project which was announced in 2022 to be a completely new IP set in an all-new science-fiction world. We never got any sense of gameplay. Not even a title was revealed, though we did get some concept art shown. All that was confirmed was its setting and it will have a character-driven narrative.

Many were interested in what the new studio would create as the company is led by Casey Hudson well-known figure in the Mass Effect community for his work on the Mass Effect trilogy when he was at BioWare.

Hudson left the company in 2014 after 16 years but later returned in 2017. He ultimately left the company in 2020 to eventually form Humanoid Origin.
