Monster Hunter World Reached 25 Million Units Sold
/Capcom announced that Monster Hunter World has reached an impressive milestone of 25 million units sold globally since it was released in 2018. This includes both physical and digital sales as well as the game’s expansion Iceborne and even the Master Edition, the latest package released for the game through consoles and PC.
Here’s the full statement from Capcom:
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in March 2024, the Monster Hunter series consists of hunting action games that pit players against giant monsters in beautiful natural environments. Beginning with the first title in 2004, the series established a new genre in which players cooperate to hunt ferocious monsters with their friends and has since grown into a global phenomenon with cumulative sales of the series exceeding 97 million units as of December 31, 2023.
With Monster Hunter: World, Capcom drove the Monster Hunter series to global-brand status with a series-first worldwide simultaneous launch and international promotional activities, establishing the game as Capcom’s best-selling title of all time within a month of its release. In the six years since the game’s launch, Capcom has continued to promote digital sales, leading Monster Hunter: World to achieve a new Capcom all-time-record of 25 million cumulative units sold. Further, in December of last year Capcom revealed Monster Hunter Wilds, garnering broad attention with the announcement that the latest title in the series is scheduled for release in 2025.
Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.
As mentioned in the statement, Capcom is celebrating the series’ 20th anniversary starting this March. To end 2023, Capcom revealed Monster Hunter Wilds, the next mainline entry in the series. Though only a teaser trailer of the game was shown during the 2023 Video Game Awards, Capcom plans to share more about the game sometime this year.
The announcement of Wilds triggered a good start for the series as Steam concurrent player numbers for Monster Hunter World last January spiked to 400% as fans of the series flocked to the 2018 hit title, likely due to the excitement of the next entry in the series as many consider World as one of the best in the Monster Hunter franchise. World reached an impressive concurrent player count of over 158,000 in January, and as of this writing, it can still hit over 100k concurrent players during peak hours.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
