New Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Trailer Features the Terastal Phenomenon and Rideable Legendaries

Developer Game Freak and The Pokémon Company released a new trailer showcasing upcoming games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for the Switch, which focused on featuring new Pokémon from Gen 9, a glimpse of the new Paldea region, and confirming that Legendary Pokemon Miraidon and Koraidon can be ridden by its trainers like a motorcycles.

Both Legendary Pokémon Miraidon and Koraidon’s bike form doesn’t seem limited as in the trailer we see trainers climb mountains, soar through the skies, and cruise around in bodies of water. Makes you think how early you get access to these types of Pokémon.

We then see the game’s unique mechanic. While Pokémon Sword and Shield had Dynamax, Pokémon Scarlet and Purple will have the Terastal phenomenon.

Here’s how they describe the Terastal phenomenon in a press release

“But Paldea isn’t just home to new Pokémon—the mysterious Terastal phenomenon makes Pokémon shine like gems, provides a boost to a Pokémon’s type, and can even change some Pokémon’s type based on their Tera Type!

You’ll be able to catch Pokémon with rare Tera Types by taking part in Tera Raid Battles with up to three other Trainers.”

Each Pokémon will have the ability to utilize this new mechanic as the Terastal phenomenon not only makes you shiny, but some moves stronger. On top of that, this mechanic can change a Pokémon’s elemental type. Based on how it was described on this video, a Pokémon’s elemental type that terastalize, as they call it, will depend on a Pokémon’s Tera type as for example, an Evee can terastalize as a normal type, but can also go water or grass. This is going to be quite an interesting addition for those that take competitive Pokémon seriously as the ability to switch an elemental type during battle sounds like a game changer.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s main story will revolve around a Treasure Hunt at the Paldea region to discover three grand stories. The first is your journey through the traditional Pokémon challenge of besting the eight Pokémon gyms to become a champion, while the other two are still unknown.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will launch later this year on November 18, 2022 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
