Resident Evil 4 Has a Big Softlock Bug That Can Occur in Chapter 12
/Capcom has revealed that the Resident Evil 4 remake has a bug that can softlock your game. It’s a small window of opportunity for the bug to happen as you need to do a specific action at a certain point in Chapter 12. So to be on the safe side, here’s what the bug does and how to avoid it.
Resident Evil 4 remake softlock bug
Don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers here if you’re starting, but do take note of this particular softlock bug once you reach Chapter 12 in the game.
The softlock bug can occur at the very beginning of Chapter 12. If you happen to attack with your knife before the game prompts you that you’ve received the key item, you won’t have the key in your inventory. This pretty much softlocks your playthrough as you can no longer progress without it.
It’s a weird occurrence, but to avoid it, just simply don’t attack with your knife until you see a notification at the upper right of your screen informing you that you’ve received the key item. It’s just a couple of seconds after Chapter 12 starts, so it’s unlikely you’ll bug your game. To be sure you’re safe and free to go on with the game, check if you do have the new key item in your inventory, which you can see by going to the game’s menu and checking the ‘Keys & Treasures’ tab.
If you do happen to get the bug, all you have to do is reload your game before the start of Chapter 12 and make sure you don’t trigger the bug again. This is just another good reason to naturally have multiple saves in a game.
Capcom has warned players via the Tweet you see above and they are currently working on a fix to be deployed in a future patch. We will update this post once a fix was deployed.
Resident Evil 4 is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The remake is off to a great start as the game already reached sales of over 3 million in just two days after release.
The remake is just a week old but will be getting a free update on April 7 which adds to the game The Mercenaries game mode, which is all about killing as many enemies within a given time limit with a specific loadout. The Mercenaries free DLC was announced by Capcom through Resident Evil 4’s launch trailer.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has the potential to be a favorite for fans of the franchise, delivering an authentic Indiana Jones experience with its story and cinematic presentation. While the game shines in its exploration and puzzle elements, the combat and stealth mechanics’ lack of gameplay variety holds it back.
