Square Enix Reveals Details for Patch 7.1: “Crossroads” Coming to Final Fantasy XIV in November
/Square Enix has announced the first major update for Final Fantasy XIV Online following the launch of the game’s fifth expansion, Dawntrail. Set to arrive in mid-November 2024, Patch 7.1, titled “Crossroads,” was highlighted during the latest Letter from the Producer LIVE broadcast at Tokyo Game Show 2024.
The whole presentation from Square Enix can be viewed below, but sadly it doesn’t have an english translation.
Thankfully, Square provided the details of the upcoming patch. Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida shared more details about what players can expect with Patch 7.1, including the continuation of the main scenario quests, the start of a much-anticipated crossover event with Final Fantasy XI, and more. Here's a breakdown of the key features:
Alliance Raid Crossover with Final Fantasy XI
One of the major highlights of Patch 7.1 is the introduction of a new 24-player alliance raid series called Echoes of Vana’diel. This highly anticipated content draws from Final Fantasy XI, Square Enix’s first MMORPG, bringing the world of Vana’diel into Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail.
New High-Difficulty Content
Patch 7.1 isn’t just about story and raids. Players can also expect high-difficulty content designed to challenge veteran players. Among the new additions is the first-ever high-difficulty 24-player raid, The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic). Additionally, there will be a new trial, a new unreal trial titled The Jade Stoa (Unreal), and a new ultimate raid called Futures Rewritten (Ultimate).
Patch 7.1 also includes a variety of new content across multiple aspects of the game:
Main Scenario Quests: The story continues, diving deeper into the narrative of Dawntrail.
New Dungeon: Players will venture into the Yuweyawata Field Station in the latest dungeon experience.
Trials and Raids: Face off against Byakko in The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene's Burden and tackle the high-difficulty raid The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic).
Allied Society Quests: Battle classes and jobs will have new challenges in the Pelupelu quests.
Hildibrand Adventures: Prepare for more laughs and excitement with Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures.
New Game+ Support: Relive the epic story of Dawntrail with updated New Game+ support, allowing players to replay main scenario quests, job quests, and role quests.
Player Housing and Miscellaneous Updates
The patch will also bring quality-of-life improvements, including updates to player housing. Players will have the option to select interior designs from different residential areas, regardless of the plot's location, and new interior designs will be available. Additional updates include improvements to the Hall of the Novice, NPC voiceovers for Doman Mahjong, and more.
The Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail expansion launched back in July as the MMORPG is building up a new story after it’s light and dark saga concluded in the Endwalker Expansion.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
