The Cycle Frontier’s July Dev Update Talks About More Shotgun Nerfs, Grenade Spams, and SMGs
/The latest developer update for The Cycle Frontier addresses a few concerns players are facing during the first season of the high-stakes shooter, such as the effectiveness of starting shotguns, grenade spam, and SMGs.
It wasn’t clear if all of what was mentioned in the latest video will be implemented on the next patch for The Cycle: Frontier but it’s definitely in their priority list in terms of balancing the game.
SMG’s being addressed
One of the biggest takeaways from this 6-minute video is how they are trying to give SMGs more meaning for players to drop with as it’s currently not the best option when you have starter shotguns and assault rifles being a more effective option in both close to medium range encounters. The change they are hoping to implement is a reduction of recoil and the speed of switching to ADS on all SMGs.
Starting shotguns getting nerfed soon
They also talked about shotguns, namely the Trenchgun and Bulldog, two starter shotguns that are currently overperforming to a point that players with blue (rare) armor will still need to be careful as you can go down quick with these weapons in close range. Not ideal, especially with the Trenchgun being cheap but produces high value when used properly. This gun will get a damage nerf on the next patch. For the Bulldog, no damage nerf but an adjustment to the weapon’s refire rate will be applied. Lastly, PKR Maelstrom will be getting some love as its recoil will be reduced, but with the cost of a big spread with each shot.
Grenade spam
Then, the infamous grenade spam that’s currently in the meta in season 1.Grenades are in a dangerous position right now as groups or even solos would toss multiple grenades at once on a player’s position, likely securing a kill or at the very least giving the grenadier an opportunity to push. The issue it seems is the delay before the grenade explodes and the sound it makes when thrown. There’s not enough time for an average player to react to a grenade spam, so the developers are looking to increase the delay before it explodes, ideally giving a player time to relocate before the second grenade lands on your feet.
The Cycle: Frontier is officially out on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store and its first season is currently live.
