Xbox’s Grounded, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, and Sea of Thieves Are Getting Multiplatform Releases
/As announced during Xbox’s special podcast episode covering Xbox’s business update, four games are coming to rival platforms: Grounded, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, and Sea of Thieves. That’s two smaller titles and two live service games from Xbox expanding their reach by launching on rival platforms.
Obsidian Entertainment’s Pentiment will be the first game released on other platforms as the award-winning narrative adventure launches on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on February 22.
Next will be my 2023 Game of the Year — Tango Gameworks’ rhythm-based action game Hi-Fi Rush. The game will launch on PlayStation 5 on March 19. Pre-purchase is now available on the PlayStation Store.
For Xbox’s live service titles, Grounded, the survival game from Obsidian Entertainment will be playing PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on April 16. What’s great about this release is that these releases will come with cross-play across Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC.
Lastly, Rare’s Sea of Thieves is coming to PlayStation 5 on April 30 and will also feature cross-play between Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
This is Xbox experimenting with a new approach to reach new players for all four of these games, especially a live service title like Sea of Thieves and Grounded. How they perform in these platforms will likely dictate if we’ll see more titles reaching rival platforms in the future.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
