You've seen my first hour run through my first Souls game, Dark Souls 2, with mild knowledge of what to expect around every corner. Now check out a run by someone who has not even heard of the Souls series.
Here's the full almost hour and a half playthrough video
Here we go. Dark Souls 2. My first entry into the Souls series. I decided to record my first hour into the game while at the same time, livestreaming it on our twitch channel, because of what I've heard regarding the Souls series. With a marketing quote being "GO BEYOND DEATH!", of course I'd be expecting to die a lot.
Here's the highlight reel of my first hour into the game. I won't be doing a Let's Play of this on our youtube channel but I have been playing a lot of it on our livestream channel so follow us there if you want to get notified when we go live.

E3 2013 will be held in the Los Angeles Convention Center and every where, the city is filled with ad signs for games. This one I'm particulary proud of since they are actually advertising this franchise as a triple A title. Dark Souls 2 is coming, and based on the sign, it's coming on March 2014.
If you've played Dark Souls, then you have a pretty good idea what you'll be getting with the sequel. From gameplay footage and trailers revealed so far, it looks like they won't be turning down the notch when it comes to difficulty. This is one franchise I'm pretty excited to get my ass handed to me.
Dark Souls Trailer
I have a feeling that the sequel just might feel like a big expansion more than anything else with notable differences, but that's not a bad thing for this game because you don't have that many titles similar to Dark Souls, and I actually want more of the same game.
The game's visual is definitely better based on this demo. One aim the developers mentioned when the game was first revealed is that they want to bring a good narrative for the players. A much needed goal since the previous games, even it being a great action RPG, had close to no story whatsoever.
Game features for Dark Souls 2:
Prepare to Die… again: Dare yourself to engage against intense gameplay in a vast world powered by an all new engine that leaps graphics, sound & FX forward like never before.
A labyrinth of monsters & bosses: Immerse yourself into mind-bending environments filled with new twisted monsters and deadly bosses that could only come from the imagination of From Software.
Sensory assault: A wide range of threats will prey on human senses & phobias – auditory hallucinations, vertigo, acrophobia, etc.
Deeper and darker: More intricate customization options provide weapons and armor tailoring to player style.
Evolved multiplayer: Updated multiplayer system enables improved online interaction to bring forward cooperative & competitive play.
Go beyond death:Dark Souls II features fluid motion-capture animations, upgraded combat system, a vastly expanded suite of characters, deeper customization options, new weapons, armor abilities, and balanced player progression system
Dark Souls 2 will be out for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, but sadly won't be a next-gen title, so keep your current platforms in good change for next March.
It took me awhile to figure out what I was watching when seeing the show live. It was only in the end when it was clearly obvious what I just watched. During this year's Video Game Awards, From Software announces Dark Souls 2 with a cinematic trailer. Check it out below

When the trailer ended, not much info was given after, and the show went on. But thankfully, Gamespot reported additional information on the Dark Souls sequel. For starters, Dark Souls 2 will be coming to PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
It was also revealed that Demon's Souls and Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki will not lead the team working on Dark Souls 2, but will rather serve as a "supervisor" during development.
The game will have a new protagonist with a fresh storyline, and a "revamped" of the Dark Souls server-based multiplayer with a twist.
That's all the information so far. After the trailer was revealed during the show, the trailer was up in Youtube but was quickly taken down after a few minutes of uploading. We will post a working link once a viable one is available.
Too soon for a sequel? Well, it depends on when this game is expected for release. The added content to the first game just came out, as well as the PC version of the game called the "Prepare to Die Edition", so it was quite a shocker to see a sequel announced.
Plan on jumping back to Dark Souls again? Well, From Software just released the Artorias of the Abyss DLC for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The DLC is the new content included in the Prepare to Die Edition for the PC. It includes new areas, bosses, armors, spells, and matchmaking for PVP.
I never thought I'd get excited for a DLC. I think the last time was Red Dead Redemption's 'Undead Nightmare' DLC that provided a whole new single player campaign. It will definitely be hard to get used to Dark Souls again, since the game isn't easy to begin with, but I've always wanted to jump back in and grab the platinum trophy. Now that Artorias of the Abyss is out, there's a bigger incentive for me to grab my copy off the shelf.
It will cost you $14.99/1200 MS points. Now this is real DLC, no armor pack dlc stuff that is just a waste.
Check out the link for a complete list of the added content.
Never played the game? Check out my review of Dark Souls, you will either appreciate the challenge it brings, or get frustrated from the constant deaths.
