Ubisoft Confirms They Are Working on The Division 2
/Ubisoft has officially announced that The Division 2 is currently underway and more details will come at E3 2018.
The sequel was revealed during a Q&A Twitch stream with the devs regarding updates on the first game. Julian Gerighty, the creative director of Massive Entertainment, made the announcement and saying “It wasn’t an easy decision, but there are so many stories and so many experiences that we wanted to explore within the world of The Division that we felt a sequel was the best way to explore these things,”
In an announcement post on Ubisoft's website, they mentioned that an updated version of their Snowdrop Engine (the game engine used in the original game) will be used in the sequel and that they will be implementing what they have learned over the past two years.
"We're thrilled to announce that we are working on Tom Clancy's The Division 2, and that development will be led by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Ubisoft Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Annecy, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Bucharest. The Division 2 will be powered by an updated version of the Snowdrop engine that enables us to realize our ambitions for the sequel, but more importantly, we're also taking everything we learned over the past two years and applying it towards the sequel to make sure we get it right. "
They also mentioned incentives planned for the players in the first game. Updates are still coming and they are implementing a new type of achievement called "Shields", and earning them will grant players special rewards for the sequel.
No platform or release date was given, so at the very least we have to wait until June for more about The Division 2.
XDefiant, developed by the Ubisoft San Francisco team, is officially shutting down as the free-to-play FPS will only have its servers open until June 2025. It was also reported that two Ubisoft studios are shutting down, effectively laying off up to 177 employees, with the rest being moved to other projects.
