Battlefield 2042 refund petition now over 100,000 signatures and counting
/It seems DICE and EA can’t catch a break as a petition in change.org, asking people to sign if they want a refund for Battlefield 2042, has reached over 100,000 signatures. According to the petition webpage, this petition will be one of the top signed on Change.org.
“EA’s release of Battlefield 2042 was a mockery of every customer who purchased this video game for $70 (USD) due to EA’s false advertising. Battlefield 2042 has cost consumers millions of dollars in damages and upset thousands of customers worldwide.” says the petition page which is addressed to Sony, Microsoft, Steam, DICE, and the Federal Trade Commission.
Many are not happy with the release of Battlefield 2042 as it launched with not only a variety of bugs and issues, but even questionable design choices that puts the latest entry in the Battlefield series a few steps back as the player base is slowly dwindling as previous titles like Battlefield V, which, according to Steamdb, can hold a 24-hour peak of over 30,000 concurrent players, as opposed to Battlefield 2042’s 24-hour peak of just over 3,000 as of this writing.
It’s not looking good, and the recent content update from DICE didn’t make matters worse as the first season of content for Battlefield 2042 – a game released in November of last year – is now delayed to Summer of 2022.
Problems like map design, basic classes replaced by Specialists, and not providing simple features such as overall player statistics and a typical scoreboard, which is apparently is coming in the next update patch for the game.
According to the petition page, if it reaches 50K signatures, a law firm is willing to take the case against EA. They are more than double that goal and time will tell if a legal case does come to light from all of this.
I too jumped into the fray at launch and wasn’t impressed by what was presented. The lack of support and DICE simply spending time to get things fixed doesn’t add any form of confidence that the game could bounce back anytime soon.
