Callisto Protocol Devs Unveil Intriguing Side Venture: 'Project Birdseye'
/Krafton and The Callisto Protocol developer Striking Distance Studios announced a new side project called Project Birdseye, a tentative working title for a top-down roguelike action game set in the world of Callisto Protocol, specifically Black Iron Prison.
The project is a complete opposite of their previous title as this game is more fast-paced, and colorful, and expresses this comic book aesthetic. The sudden reveal seems to be them testing the waters on the public’s reaction to the project and based on the comments, many consider it to be “promising”.
Here is the first details on the project.
Last year, a small group of us began working on a passion project that was born out of our obsession with easy to pick up and play but fun to master roguelikes. We love the world we created for The Callisto Protocol and want to keep playing in that sandbox – and Black Iron Prison is the perfect future-punk playground for the team’s vision. As you can tell, this isn’t The Callisto Protocol 2 – think of it as a side quest that really resonated with the team – it let us expand the world of The Callisto Protocol and stretch our creative muscles on something a bit different without impacting development on our next AAA game.
Since so much of The Callisto Protocol’s post-launch journey was shaped by the community, it made sense to bring everyone in during an early phase of development to see if the concept clicks with you as much as it has with us. Please check out the reveal video below and let us know what you think!
The next AAA title for Striking Distance Studios is still unknown and it wouldn’t be surprising if they do go for a sequel for their survival horror The Callisto Protocol, considering it has not greatly received when it was released back in 2022.
Project Birdseye has no release date and has yet to announce the game’s platforms.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
