Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Stylish Turn-Based RPG Inspired by Belle Époque Art, Coming in 2025
/During the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, developer Sandfall Interactive revealed their debut title Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turned-based RPG that is inspired by the lavish art and culture of France’s Belle Époque.
The game revolves around a story of Gustave and his expedition to defeat the paintress, an entity hell-bent in eradicating humanity. This title will be available in multiple platforms as it will also be available on the PS5, but it will be available on Xbox Game Pass once it releases.
A description of the game on Steam reads: “Once a year, the Paintress wakes and paints upon her monolith. Paints her cursed number. And everyone of that age turns to smoke and fades away. Year by year, that number ticks down and more of us are erased. Tomorrow she’ll wake and paint “33.” And tomorrow we depart on our final mission - Destroy the Paintress, so she can never paint death again. We are Expedition 33.”
Developer Sandfall Interactive is based in France and was founded back in 2020 their first title will be published by Kepler Interactive.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set to launch on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC (Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store). It will be available on Game Pass on day one.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
