Fans are not happy with Sega’s new mobile RPG

Sega released a teaser trailer for a new RPG that will be fully revealed at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The video was less than two-minutes long and didn’t really show much about the game, but the mere fact that this new RPG is only for mobile devices was enough for the teaser to have four times as many dislikes compared to likes on YouTube.

The teaser for the new RPG explains that player choice is a factor in the game’s overall story and will eventually affect the ending of the game, confirming that the game will feature a non-linear story. Beyond that and the many anime-styled concept art shown, that’s all we know for now.

But the comments are flooded with disappointment as many are focused on the fact that it’s a mobile-only title. “It’s painful when a game comes out for smartphones but not consoles because you know they’re just gonna monetise it to death…” says one YouTube comment, and one simply saying “Mobile game? No Thanks SEGA”, a comment with over 100 likes.

If you’re curious to know more about the game, you’ll have to wait until next week. The game has an official website now live but it simply shows the same teaser with a countdown for the game’s full reveal, which will happen during Tokyo Game Show’s livestream on October 1, 2021, at 9 AM GMT +8.

It will be interesting to see if the narrative around it will still focus on it being a mobile game once it’s fully revealed. If it looks great and many want to play it, I wouldn’t be surprised if many will react negatively again because of it not being available on other platforms. We’ll see how it turns out next week.

This year’s Tokyo Game Show will be online only and will include a series of presentations from big brands such as Xbox, Square Enix, Capcom, Sega, and a lot more. TGS will begin on Wednesday, September 29 until Sunday, October 3.
