Interactive Horror Game Until Dawn Is Getting an Enhanced Version for PS5 and PC
/During the first State of Play stream from PlayStation for 2024, they revealed that an enhanced version of the 2015 interactive horror game Until Dawn will be released on the PS5 and PC sometime this year.
The studio behind the enhanced version of the game is a UK-based company called Ballistic Moon, and it seems like this is the team’s first big project.
This version of the game is being rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, featuring improved animations based on the performances done by the actors who played each of the main characters in the game.
“We use a broader cinematic tonal colour palette and new perspectives to make the story more nuanced and emotional. We’ve been brave enough to shine a light into the dark, unseen corners of Blackwood Mountain and added a third-person camera, which means you can now look behind the curtain of the original game, exploring enhanced and new locations with new interactions and collectables. “ says Neil McEwan, creative director at Ballistic Moon in a PlayStation Blog post.
The story of Until Dawn will remain unchanged but the studio has “seized the opportunity to expand upon unexplored emotional parts of the story.” in this version of the game.
Until Dawn was created by Supermassive Games, the studio behind the Dark Anthology interactive game series and The Quarry.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
