Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name Launches on November 9
/During Summer Game Fest 2023, Sega revealed our first look at gameplay for the spin-off title Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name which is set to launch on November 9.
Sega provided a quick overview of the game’s story:
“Having faked his own death to protect his loved ones, Kazuma Kiryu, the once-renowned yakuza, now lives in obscurity.”
“He occasionally receives missions as a secret agent for the Daidoji Faction, a shadowy organization that once operated as a fixer for the government. Kiryu's very existence is kept a closely guarded secret within Daidoji. There he languishes away each day in his self-imposed solitude. Until one day, somebody arrives to drag Kiryu back into the fold.”
This title is set between the events of Yakuza 7 and Yakuza: Like a Dragon as developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is filling the gaps that will eventually help the overall story as players eventually play Like a Dragon 8, the next mainline entry to the Yakuza series that will feature not only Kazuma Kiryu but Yakuza: Like a Dragon protagonist Ichiban Kasuga as well.
Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will be hosting a studio showcase on June 16, which is why it was a surprising to see one of the studio’s upcoming titles to be revealed in Summer Game Fest. This makes it more likely that the studio-focused event will focus more on Like a Dragon 8, provide more details about Like a Dragon Gaiden, or potentially reveal new projects either in the Yakuza franchise or a completely new title.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-orders for the game are now available as those who buy early will get the “Legendary Fighter Pack” that features Daigo Dojima, Goro Majima, and Taiga Saejima as bonus boss battles.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
