Overwatch 2’s Newest Hero Is Kiriko, Will Be Unlocked Through Battle Pass
/During the Xbox Tokyo Game Show broadcast, they revealed a new hero for Blizzard’s team-based shooter Overwatch 2 and her name is Kiriko, a support hero that has strong mobility and provides powerful buffs to her team.
This is the third newest hero to be introduced since Overwatch 2 was announced and will be free to all players that currently own Overwatch. She will also be the game’s first hero attached to the game’s new battle pass system.
Don’t worry, she'll be in the free track of the battle pass, so players can unlock the hero for free, though you’ll need to reach level 55 in order to unlock her. Those who purchase the premium version will instantly have access to Kiriko. The Overwatch 2 battle pass will cost 1,000 Overwatch Coins, which costs $10.
Those who own the original Overwatch game before Overwatch 2 goes live on October 4 will have Kiriko unlocked automatically.
Kiriko’s abilities
As for what Kiriko will provide for the team, she will be a support that can primarily heal and protect her team during a fight. Her primary ability is the Healing Ofuda, which allows her to throw paper talismans towards her allies to heal them. They will act differently as they will magnetize towards an ally, making it easier to heal those with fast movement speed like Genji or characters always up in the air like Pharah.
Her next ability is Swift Step, a movement ability that allows Kiriko to teleport quickly, even through multiple walls. A solid option to stay close to those that need healing or if you need to retreat to safety.
Kiriko also has an ability to temporarily make those around her invulnerable to damage (as seen in the trailer when Junkrat’s ultimate did no damage when the ability was active). It’s called Protection Suzu and it’s a small bell effect that affects those inside the ability’s radius. It’s all about timing as doing it the wrong time could cost an opportunity to deflect major damage as the cooldown for this ability is currently 14 seconds.
As for her ultimate, it’s called the Kitsune Rush. When triggered, a spirit fox is summoned and starts rushing forward. Kiriko and allies that rush forward with the fox will be given a massive buff in movement speed, attack speed, reload speed, and cooldown reduction. A perfect tool if your team is planning to rush in.
As for Kiriko dealing damage herself, she wields throwable kunai. The damage is said to be nothing substantial but her kunai will be fast and accurate, and will be more substantial in critical hits. She can also passively wall climb.
The multiplayer portion of Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play and will go live on October 4 on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S. Xbox One, and PC.
