Return to Monkey Island announced

Devolver Digital, Lucasfilm Games, and Terrible Toybox have announced Return to Monkey Island, a new point-and-click adventure game by Monkey Island series creator Ron Gilbert. No platforms were announced for the game but it’s set to release sometime in 2022.

It’s been nearly 32 years since the release of The Secret of Monkey Island, and the last Monkey Island game was Tales of Monkey Island, which was released back in 2009. Return to Monkey Island will be the sixth entry to the series and will be directed by Ron Gilbert and co-written by Gilbert and Dave Grossman, known to work on the first two Monkey Island games. Development will be done by the studio Terrible Toybox, who released Thimbleweed Park in 2014, a game Ron Gilbert worked on as well.

It is confirmed that the series’ composers Michael Land, Peter McConnel, and Clinkt Bajakian will return to compose Return to Monkey Island. Dominic Armato, the voice of Guybrush Threepwood in all Monkey Island games, will again return to reprise his role as the series protagonist.
