Square Enix to give extra game time due to Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker long queues
/Final Fantasy XIV Online’s latest expansion titled Endwalker has gone live for those with early access and has experienced long queue times over the weekend. As compensation for players unable to play MMORPG’s latest content right away, Square Enix promised to give an extra seven days of game time for the inconvenience.
The announcement was made through a blog post by Final Fantasy XIV director and Producer Naoki Yoshida, mentioning the extra game time while providing a detailed description on why players are experiencing not only long queue times but a few connection errors when trying to log in.
"Currently, all Worlds across all regions have been hitting the login cap for extremely long periods of time, and the progression of login queues is being slowed dramatically," he explained. "Across the FFXIV service as a whole, the number of simultaneous logins has reached the hardware limit, and as a result, logging in has required an extremely long time, especially during 'peak hours' when we tend to see increased player activity. For this, I am truly sorry.” says Yoshida in the blog post.
This isn’t unusual for online games – especially with a playerbase like FFXIV – as long queue times and server issues mostly happen during the launch of new content for the game. I too have experienced long queue times last Friday when the servers went live and nearly took two hours for me to see my character enter the world. As the days went by, the queues have shortened but many aren’t so lucky even today.
The launch of Endwalker is rather special as well as it’s the follow up to the Shadowbringers expansion, which many fans state is the best expansion released for the MMMORPG. From there, the game continued to rise in popularity. With Endwalker considered as the conclusion to the main storyline that began when the game was re-released as A Realm Reborn in 2013, it’s no surprise that many are coming back to see how it concludes.
Luckily, the long queue times seems to be the only main issue many are experiencing as I haven’t experienced bugs or server issues while playing the new content. Thankfully, there aren't any server errors that would spit you out, resulting in you going back to the queue.
Again, these are currently issues happening during the game’s early access launch. Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker will officially go live for all players this week, December 7, 2021, and hopefully Square Enix is ready for more players coming in.
