Star Ocean The Second Story R - New Game Plus Explained
/Star Ocean The Second Story R is a remake that features a new game plus option that unlocks the moment you finish the game for the first time. If you’re familiar with New Game Plus from previous games, Star Ocean The Second Story R pretty much delivers the same concept as a good chunk of your progress from your completed save file carries over to your new playthrough in New Game Plus.
This New Game Plus is another way to play the game differently or recruit different characters since you need to meet certain requirements to get certain characters. This is also a good opportunity to play the game from the other character’s perspective and trigger the different endings as Star Ocean The Second Story R features 99 variations of the game’s ending.
For the sake of the game’s main story, some things don’t carry over, such as items that are key to the progress of the story.
Here’s a list of what carries over to your New Game Plus playthrough.
Total FOL (currency)
SP points
BP points
The current levels for each character
All skills and moves learned/improved
The current Friendship level for each character
Completion status of your encyclopedia
Completed Fun City facilities
Completed Guild Missions
Completed Guild Challenges
Player info excluding obtained treasure chests
Can I still play a completed save file?
Aside from most of your progress carrying over to a New Game Plus playthrough, you can load your completed safe file as it’s currently saved before you enter the final battle in the game. From here, you can do whatever activity you still have yet to finish, such as beating the new Raid encounters in Energy Nede or even the activities in Expel as players can now transport themselves to a virtual version of the first world. What’s great about revisiting Expel is that you still have access to your Psynard, which allows you to fly to any part of the world map or now have access to certain areas. You even have new content available for finishing the game.
EX Dungeon “Maze of Tribulations”
Endings Collection
Voice Collection
Maze of Tribulations is a special dungeon that was also available in the original game and PSP version that was also known as the Cave of Trials. This end-game dungeon isn’t exclusive to your New Game Plus playthrough as you can access the Maze of Tribulations through your completed save file.
All you have to do is go to Fun City’s Battle Arena and talk to the old man in the Colosseum. He’ll be hard to miss as he’s the gold exclamation mark on the mini-map. Talk to him and he’ll transport you to a virtual version of Expel. You’ll start in Arlia, and from there you can head all the way East with your Psynard to reach the EX Dungeon.
It contains 13 floors and features one of the best equipment and has exclusive abilities you can earn for Leon, Celine, and Ashton.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
