Bandai Namco announced that Tales of Arise is doing rather well as it has surpassed the 1 million units sold mark, making it the fastest selling title in franchise history. The JRPG was released just last week on September 10.

Thanks to Tales of Arise, the franchise as a whole has sold over 25 million units worldwide.

“We are very proud and humbled to see fans and newcomers reception playing Tales of Arise” says Yusuke Tomizawa, producer on Tales of Arise at Bandai. “Our goal with this title was to open the franchise to as many players as possible while maintaining the Tales of DNA and uniqueness that has allowed the franchise to stay strong for more than 25 years. We would like to thank players for their support.”

I’m currently over 20 hours in the JRPG and I have to agree with Tomizawa. Tales of Arise is a solid entry for the franchise and the move to develop this entry through Unreal Engine 4 instead of the previous game engine used for previous titles looks to be paying off. What they’ve released here is a game that would not only satisfy veteran fans of the series but also appeal to newcomers wondering what the fuss is all about.

Over at Metacritic and OpenCritic, the critics mostly give praise to Tales of Arise as the game’s average score hovers around the 87 mark on both sites. Based on SteamDB, many were interested in jumping into Tales of Arise as the all-time concurrent players for the JRPG peaked at over 60,000 at one point during launch week.

I wasn’t too fond of Bandai Nacmo’s DLC practices for Tales of Arise but it can easily be ignored as you won’t find the need for them as the game remains fun and rewarding without any of them.

Tales of Arise is now available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
