The Ubisoft Games I Was Hoping To See During E3 2021
/Ubisoft kicked off the start of this year’s E3 2021 with their digital presentation Ubisoft Forward and it felt balanced as they covered their biggest intellectual properties with a few of them resurfaced that left me surprised at the reveal. Ubisoft has expressed what will or will not be showed during the show to set expectations but the French company has a series of titles announced and have went radio silent for years and their absence this years begs the question as to what is going on with them right now.
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Ubisoft made it official when they announced Beyond Good and Evil 2 during E3 2017 and the last time we heard any new information about the game was way bay in late 2019. At this point, it’s hard to get a good idea on the current state of this project with close to no information and the no-show this year makes it even more concerting. With the game’s creative director Michel Ancel leaving the project last year and the fact that PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S is now released, the project has likely gone through different core concept changes that it might need a reintroduction to the public once they are ready to show something.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
The team working on the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake announced that it won’t be at E3 this year and that it’s now scheduled to release in 2022, but I was hoping at the very least some recognition or a nod as this was a title scheduled to come out January of this year. The reactions to the reveal trailer really delivered a heavy blow as based on the delays and even going MIA at this year’s E3, major changes are being done and they are not even confident enough to show more footage of the game to at least remind people that it’s coming.
The Division: Heartland
The Division franchise is expanding as we are getting a featured film as well as books based on the video game looter shooter series, and while the last bit of update for the franchise was a blog post confirming more is coming, I was hoping to get a little bit more information during E3 2021. That goes especially to the recently announced free-to-play game The Division: Heartland, which pretty much exists because of Ubisoft’s post as there’s no gameplay footage or official details about the game. A free-to-play version of The Division sounds interesting and I was hoping they would expand more on this in the form of a teaser to get us eager as it currently has a 2021-2022 release window.
Skull & Bones
Skull & Bones is another title that has stayed away from the spotlight for years to the point that it might need a reintroduction as most people have likely forgotten that this exists. A pirate naval warfare video game that is the perfect game for those that loved the naval combat sections in games like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag or Assassin’s Creed Origins. The game is still in development but has went through various changes in the teams vision of the game. The game has been delayed for 4 consecutive years since it was announced and it’s recent release window is now somewhere after April of 2022.
It’s unfortunate we didn’t get these games a nod or at least new information during E3 2021 but the show had a variety of reveals such as Rocksmith+, Mario + Rabbids sequel, and our first look at Rainbow Six Extraction gameplay.
The show ended with an unexpected reveal - Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, a first-person open world adventure game set in the universe of James Cameron’s Avatar.
E3 2021 is currently underway as the digital event started on June 12 and will last until June 15.
