Respawn Entertainment released a new trailer showcasing Apex Legends Season 9’s Arena, a 3v3 game mode that will be permanently available for all players once the new season goes live on May 4 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

How the game mode works is pretty simple - two teams of 3 go head to head to see who can win at least 3 rounds of team deathmatch. There are no respawns and players get to purchase equipment before the start of a round with the resources given and earned from previous rounds. It’s their take on the Valorant formula and I’m all for it.

Check out the trailer, which showcases Arena and the maps available for the new game mode.

Apex Legends season 9 will also introduce a new legend that goes by the name Valkyrie, a recon class and is the daughter of a certain antagonist in Titanfall 2.

Here’s a quick rundown of her abilities.

  • VTOL Jets (Passive): Press jump while in the air to engage jetpack.

  • Missile Swarm (Tactical): Fire a swarm of mini-rockets which damage and disorient the enemy

  • Skyward Dive (Ultimate): Press once to prepare for launch. Teamates can interact with Valkyrie to join the launch. press again to launch into the air and skydive

Season 9, which is titled titled 'Legacy’, will also introduce a new weapon called the Bocek Bow, a weapon that seems to be a solid choice for mid to long range encounters. The Bocek will launch with two hop-ups - Dead Eye’s tempo, which makes drawing your arrows and firing it much faster, and Scatter Caps, which converts arrow shots act as shotgun spread shots for close encounters.

Respawn Entertainment’s aim for next season seems to be to improve variety with the addition of a new game mode, a new weapon, plus a new legend to really change things around next month.

Respawn is hard at work at making Apex Legends more accessible for players as they’ve also recently announced Apex Legends Mobile, which is heading to the closed beta phase in select countries, and the Philippines is one of the regions to be the first to try out battle royale on mobile devices..
