Balatro Reportedly Generated Over $4 Million Sales on Mobile Thanks to Its Game Awards Nominations
/Roguelike indie card game Balatro continues to hit new highs as it was reported that the game generated $4.4 million in gross revenue on mobile, two months after its release on both the App Store and Google Play store.
What made the sudden surge in sales? The Game Awards 2024. According to a report from PocketGamer, the card game had a good launch when the mobile version of the game was released on September 26, but was on a steady decline in October. It was on November 18 when sales for the game started to climb eventually leading to them earning over $4 million in sales.
November 18 was the day The Game Awards 2024 announced their list of nominees for each of their award categories, with Balatro bagging five nominations — Best Game Direction, Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, Best Mobile Game, and Game of the Year, which surprised many.
Balatro first debuted on PC in early February, and since then have maintained an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ rating on Steam with over 40,000 user reviews logged. When developer LocalThunk celebrated the game reaching two million copies sold, they revealed that the game’s first major update is planned to release sometime in 2025.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
