Silent Hill: The Short Message Releasing on the PS5 for Free Later Today
/During Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first State of Play presentation for 2024, Konami revealed Silent Hill: The Short Message, a first-person survival horror game that will be released entirely for free to players on the PS5 later today.
“This game started as something like an experimental project – an opportunity for us to try out different things, see what worked and what didn’t, and grow and polish our horror game expertise. We also had a lot of people who were relatively new in their career but still loved Silent Hill, and who really wanted to be involved in making a horror game, so we used this as a way for our team to build hands-on experience, too.” says Okai Okamoto in a PlayStation Blog post.
Silent Hill: The Short Message is what they described as a short-form game. What will be released through the PlayStation Store is considered the complete game of The Short Message and is Konami’s way of kicking off the new wave of Silent Hill titles they have planned in the near future.
Soon after the reveal of The Short Message in the State of Play presentation, Konami gave us our first look at the gameplay of the Silent Hill 2 remake but did not reveal a release date for it.
The first major stream for PlayStation also features a new look at Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Dead Stranding 2: On the Beach, and more.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
