The Biggest Announcements From The Xbox Series X Games Showcase

The Xbox showcase has ended and revealed a ton of games mixed with new titles, exclusives and more as we have a better idea of what we can expect from Xbox, especially with the Xbox Series X coming out this holiday season.

In case you missed the live show, we’ve collated the biggest announcements that was revealed during the showcase.

Halo Infinite

343 Industries started the showcase with Halo Infinite, giving us our first look at gameplay where we see Master Chief doing what he does best. The game looks graphically and the 8-minute demo revealed that you’ll get more freedom to explore the world. Halo Inifinte will launch this holiday.

Avowed

Avowed is a new game from Outer Worlds developer Obsidian Entertainment. It’s a fantasy-themed first-person RPG and that’s all we know about the game so far aside from the trailer above.

Forza Motorsport

Forza Motorsport is the next entry in the racing franchise and is being developed by Turn 10 Studios and this marks as the 15th Forza title the studio has worked on since the series started way back in 2005. Forza Motorsport is said to feature ray tracing, 4k resolution support running at 60 fps.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Bungie revealed a new trailer for Destiny 2’s upcoming expansion Beyond Light, showcasing the new abilities Guardians will get once it goes live on November 10. Destiny 2 will be available on Xbox Game Pass in September and will be available on Xbox Series X.

Tetris Effect: Connected

Tetris Effect: Connected expands on the 2018 Tetris game by adding co-op and competitive multiplayer modes available locally and online. Tetris Effect: Continued will be available first on Xbox this holiday.

Balan Wonderland

Former Sonic team head Yuji Naka is teaming up with Square Enix to bring you Balan Wonderland, an action game that will feature a variety of different costumes needed to navigate this strange world. It’s set for a spring 2021 release on the Xbox Series X and Xbox One.

Everwild

The developers at Rare (Sea of Thieves) revealed their new title called Everwild and it’s an open-world adventure that looks gorgeous based on the trailer shown at the showcase. The trailer didn’t show gameplay so we don’t know how it will play but we do know you play as a character named Eternal who has the ability to sense magic. No release date was given.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

The studio Fatshark is working on Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and it’s a 4-player co-op shooter planned for a 2021 on the Xbox Series X. Fatshark has a lot of experience with co-op games as they are best known for their work on the Warhammer: Vermintide games and has found success with the Left 4 Dead gameplay formula. Darktide is set in the city of Tertium and it’s exciting to see what they can do with the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Tell Me Why

We were given a new trailer on Dontnod’s latest narrative-driven game called Tell Me Why and it’s set to launch on August 27. It was first announced last year and the latest video above gives us a better understanding of the game’s story. Dontnod is planning to release all episodes of Tell Me Why at once instead of how they handled the release of Life is Strange, releasing episodes one by one.

Psychonauts 2

Double Fine is working on Psychonauts 2 and the trailer revealed at the showcase shows Jack Black collaborating with Tim Schafer once again to perform a soundtrack for the game. we also see gameplay of this psychedelic platformer that’s filled with color and strange objects. No exact release date was given but it’s set for a 2021 release on the Xbox Series X.

Crossfire X - Campaign Announced

South Korean developer Smilegate announced in last year’s Xbox presentation at E3 2019,that the free-to-play shooter Crossfire X will be coming to the west for the Xbox One in 2020. Now, it looks like Crossfire X wil get it’s own single player campaign with Control and Alan Wake developers Remedy working on it.

The campaign will be available in a Premium Battle Pass at launch. The Battle Pass will also feature a variety of modes for the free-to-play multiplayer portion of Crossfire X.

State of Decay 3

Undead Labs just released their first trailer of State of Decay 3. No gameplay was shown but shows undead animals which could be the new threat in this one. No other details where given as State of Decay 3 is in early development but it will be available on Xbox Series X and PC.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2

Developer GSC Game World resurfaces once again with the post-apocalyptic survival shooter Stalker 2 revealing that it will be available on the Xbox Series X. It was revealed back in 2018 that the developers were aiming for a 2021 release but since the release of the new trailer, no new information was given for the sequel’s release date. Stalker 2 will also be available on PC but it will be a console exclusive on Xbox.

The Gunk

Image & Form is giving the SteamWorld series a break as they announced The Gunk, an adventure game where the protagonist explores various places and sucks up this black goo that seems to put a negative effect on the world. This isn’t just for the Xbox Series X as it will be available on other platforms like the Xbox One and PC. No exact release date was given outside the 2021 window.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis

Sega recently brought Phantasy Star Online 2 this year to the west and it seems they had more planned as they announced Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. It’s described as the “latest entry” in the series. Is it a game system and visual upgrade to Phantasy Star online 2? Information is limited for now so hopefully Sega provides more details to give a good idea of what this title will provide to fans of the series.

The Medium

We got a new look at Bloober Team’s The Medium, a horror game where a player can explore two realities, the real world and the spiritual world. The trailer above showcases the concept of having two worlds being rendered at the same time, allowing the protagonist Marianne to switch between the physical and the spiritual world with ease. It also shows that the player will have certain abilities only available in certain worlds. The Medium is currently set for a holiday release this year for Xbox Series X and PC via Steam.

Fable

Microsoft ended the showcase with a new Fable game simply called Fable and is being developed over at Playground Games, a studio best known for their work on the Forza Horizon games. It will be available on Xbox Series X and Windows 10 and it’s considered a new start for the series, thus it having a simple title. No other details where given as the trailer simply confirms that it is being worked on and that this game will have the same tone the series is known for.
