Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time And Star Wars: Squadrons Come Out This Week
/As we leave September behind and enter October, we are welcomed with two games - Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time and Star Wars Squadrons, both coming out on October 2, 2020.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time has a lot going for it as it’s the return of Crash himself doing his platforming antics mixed in with familiar characters made playable for the first time ever. Neo Cortex, Dingodile, and even Tawna is made playable and each of them have their own unique skills on how they handle each stage. It’s been more than 10 years since we last received a true sequel to the franchise and Toys for Bob — famous for the Skylander franchise — is at the helm at bringing Crash and co. back into the limelight.
Crash 4 will also feature local multiplayer called Battle Mode and has two game modes. One is a time trail competition of sorts called Checkpoint Race to see who among your friends can win the most checkpoint races in a game., while Crate Combo is a race who among your group can get the most points in each checkpoint. You can play up to two players with a max of four at one time but you’re not racing simultaneously though as each player gets a hand of the controller when it’s their turn to go through the level. IGN released a Youtube video going in-depth in the game’s multiplayer.
If Platforming competitively isn’t your thing then we have Star Wars: Squadrons, an online competitive space shooter set in…well the Star Wars universe.
The Empire versus the Resistance in starfighter combat. If you remember the space combat available in Star Wars: Battlefront but felt unsatisfied, i’m sure you’re not alone. Many thought it would be a great idea to have a multiplayer focused on space combat and that’s what Squadrons is all about. But they add a little more as Star Wars: Squadrons will be delivering a story with two perspectives, set after the the Battle of Endor seen in Return of the Jedi. You play as two pilots on opposite sides of the ongoing war.
EA and EA Motive is launching Star Wars Squadrons VR, so if you have the gear you could experience all story missions in a first person perspective.
There will be 8 ships to pilot at launch, 4 for each side as each ship plays a specific role in a match. There will also be 6 locations (maps) where the battles will take place and 3 main game modes - Story, Dogfight, and Fleet Battles. We know what Story is all about. Dogfight, on the other hand are simply 5v5 matches that are pretty much dogfights between two squadrons of ships, while Fleet Battles are objective-based matches that have multiple layers in them.
Special Mentions
These aren’t the only games coming out within the week. If entering the Star Wars world or Crash Bandicoot isn’t your cup of tea, there is also the PC version of Spelunky 2, another platformer that was first released on the PS4 a couple of weeks ago. You can even look back by a week as Mafia: Definitive Edition (September 25) is now available and is considered a solid remake worth revisiting if you’re a fan of the series.
From here on out, each week we see a lot of noteworthy titles and DLCs to keep tabs on, and it won’t stop as once October ends, we enter the next-gen month as the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will launch in November.
