You Should Check Out Scorn, A Gross FPS Horror Game Coming Out In 2021
/Developer Ebb Software released a new gameplay trailer highlighting the game’s atmosphere and how gross reloading your guns sound in this first-person horror title launching on the Xbox Series and PC in 2021.
This shooter was first revealed back in 2016 and many took notice of it’s grotesque design from the weapons you use to the enemies you face as you navigate through what seems to be a living labyrinth fueled with horror.
Scorn looked eerie with an Alien-inspired look, with sound design that aims to make the player feel uncomfortable at all times. That’s what I felt at least as I watched the gameplay trailer found below. The sounds in the reloading animation alone, which shows you detaching the top half of what seems to be a living weapon and replacing it with a new one, really stood out for me as I’ve never associated that action with that type of sound ever in a game.
Despite it’s uncomfortable design, it’s an interesting approach in mixing a first-person shooter with horror. It’s slow paced compared to other shooters but this leans more towards survivor horror, so I won’t be expecting over-the-top shooting like Doom but more of you picking your fights and conserving what resources you have.
Here are the key features based on the game’s Steam page:
Key Features
Cohesive “Lived-In” World – Scorn takes place in an open-ended world with different interconnected regions. Each region is a maze-like structure with various rooms and paths to discover. All the storytelling happens in-game, with no cut-scenes to distract you from the grisly reality of the living, breathing world you’re in. But keep your eyes open—the game won’t show you any sympathy if you miss something important on your uneasy travels. Everything has a reason and purpose – you just need to work out what it is.
Full Body Awareness – Players will experience better immersion being aware of the character’s body and movement. Interaction with the world is realistic – objects are picked up with your hands (instead of just floating in midair), machines and instruments are operated by grabbing the controls etc.
Inventory and Ammo Management – Is defined and limited. It plays a big role in keeping the player in an even greater state of awareness throughout the whole game. Players will have to think about when to fight and when to take cover and how their actions affect the world around them. Different play styles will be needed to advance.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is now my favorite title from the Persona team by far. It’s one of those rare games where its main pillars work harmoniously, and you get lost in its charm. It’s a pristine JRPG, with enough style and substance to satisfy hardcore JRPG fans, Persona fans, and even those who rarely touch JRPGs.
