Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - A Prequel to Breath of the Wild
/ Miguel MendozaThe newest Legend of Zelda game has taken an interesting turn. Not only are we getting a new entry in the Hyrule Warriors series, but it's also coming in the form of a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
While I wouldn't call this a sequel to the first Hyrule Warriors game from 2014, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is Koei Tecmo's next entry in the series and it takes place 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild. The Dynasty Warriors gameplay style of "1 vs. 1000 battles" is a perfect fit to showcase what took place in the Great Calamity as well as give players an excuse to see just how badass the Breath of the Wild champions can be. Game producer Yosuke Hayashi mentions that unlike the previous Hyrule Warriors games, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was developed by working closely with the Zelda team. This explains why so much of the game looks very similar to Breath of the Wild. I, for one, personally cannot wait to wreak havok on waves of bokoblins as Lady Urbosa.
As for the reason why I mentioned that I do not consider this as a proper sequel to Hyrule Warriors. Since this new game will be how we experience the events of the Great Calamity, there's a slim chance that the rest of the Zelda all-star roster outside of Breath of the Wild will be making an appearance here. That's not to say that this is a bad thing. This just means that there's now all the more reason to pick up a copy Hyrule Warriors: Definite Edition on the Nintendo Switch as both games can sit comfortably in one's game roster without overshadowing the other.
Another surprise is that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will launch later this year for the Nintendo Switch on November 20th. This will keep Zelda fans busy, as least for a little while, until the much-awaited sequel to Breath of the Wild. To which Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has mentioned "You'll have to wait a bit longer."

Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max Caulfield with new time-manipulation powers, but struggles to capture the original’s emotional weight. While the dual-timeline mechanic is engaging, the story’s weak twists, forgettable characters, and technical issues hold it back. A nostalgic revisit, but not a standout entry in the series.
