New Trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man Features More Villains And A Daring Mary Jane
/There’s a new trailer for Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man game and I have to admit that I’m getting more and more interested. The trailer was shown at San Diego Comic-Con this week and it’s packed with so many villains and a big focus on a city in chaos.
I have to admit that I’ve been skeptical of Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man game before. It felt like so much of Insomniac’s initial promotions were focused on telling us how great Spider-Man is and how great it is to work on Spider-Man. But as the months pass closer and closer to its release date, we’ve seen a lot more of the game, and that makes me hopeful.
But what’s really interesting about this trailer is the greater role that Mary Jane seems to play in this story. In this version of the Spider-Man universe, she’s recast as a reporter at the Daily Bugle. Creative director Bryan Intihar told Game Informer earlier this year that her “arc is more than just cutscenes,” consisting of unique missions and gameplay mechanics.
Mary Jane won’t be Spider-Man’s only partner in the war against super crime: the trailer suggests that a seemingly non-powered Miles Morales helps out. But the most surprising addition to the game’s world is Silver Sable, the mercenary and bounty hunter who has served as both ally and foe to Spidey in the comics. Think of her as the webhead’s own Boba Fett-like adversary.
I’m a big old Spider-Man fan since childhood, so I have to admit that while adult me is like, “wait for reviews,” kid me is like, “pre-order that shit now!” Yes, kid me knows the sh-word. But with great hype comes great responsibility.
Developer Sucker Punch Productions has unveiled their next game and it’s a follow up of their hit open-world game Ghost of Tsushima titled Ghost of Yōtei, set 300 years after the events of the first game.
