Read MoreThe big games releasing in September 2021
/September has arrived and there’s a handful of highly anticipated games coming out this month. A good mix of games too as we have new entries to beloved franchises, a new IP to check out, and yet another re-release of a title with added content in case you missed it the first time. Here are top games coming out this month that stood out compared to the rest.
Tales of Arise (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC) - September 9
If you’re looking for a new JRPG, Tales of Arise is something to consider as it’s the latest mainline entry to the long-running Tales Of franchise. It retains the signature real-time action-based combat the series is known for but also has a big change as Bandai Namco has switched from their old game engine (which was used to develop previous Tales Of titles) to Unreal Engine 4. The change in game engine overall makes it a more appealing title, especially with new consoles now in the market.
You can see for yourself as Tales of Arise has a free trial demo available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
Life is Strange: True Colors (PS5, PS4, XSX, XBO, PC, Switch) - September 10
If you’re looking for a game that’s story-driven then Life is Strange: True Colors is a game to keep in your radar this month. It features a new protagonist named Alex Chen, who has the ability of empathy as she can sense what a person is feeling. It’s a story about her trying to fully grasp her newfound abilities while investigating the murder of a loved one in a small mountain town called Haven Springs.
This will be the first time a mainline Life is Strange game will not be episodic, so you’ll no longer have to wait for the next episode of the game to release as you can simply play it from start to finish at your own pace. It was originally planned to have the Life is Strange collection to release alongside True Colors, but the collection - which is the remaster of the first two games - was pushed back to release next year.
Deathloop (PS5, PC) - September 14
Deathloop is the latest game from Dishonored developers Arkane Lyon and is a stealth-FPS set in the 1960s. You play as Colt, a man hell-bent on breaking free from this time loop prison. The only way he can break the loop is to assassinate eight high-profile targets before midnight. Dying and failing to kill all eight will result in resetting the loop and doing it all over again. The catch is that there’s an online multiplayer component where players can jump into someone’s game to take the role of rival assassin Julianna Blake, who is tasked to protect the loop from folks like Colt.
You’ll have Dishonored-like abilities to pull off these assassinations, and you’ll go through a series of trial and error, with Julianna being the unpredictable variable in your plans of breaking out.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut (PS5, PS4) September 24
anding is getting the Director’s Cut treatment and if ever you’re curious to give Hideo Kojima’s latest game a try, or replay the game, this version adds new missions as well as new features, such as more ways to deliver your cargo, weapons to make you more effective in battle, and even new activities like weapon training, revisiting boss encounters, and even racetrack racing. For the sake of competition, each of the new activities have their respective leaderboards for players hoping to flex their Death Stranding skills.
The Director’s Cut of Death Stranding will be available on both PS4 and PS5. If you own a PS4 copy of the game already, you’ll be charged a cheaper price in order to upgrade to the Director’s Cut version of the game.
Lost Judgment ( PS5, PS4, XSX) - September 24
Lost Judgment is the sequel to the Yakuza spin-off game Judgment that came out in 2018 and puts players in the shoes of private detective Takayuki Yagami once again as he investigates another high-profile case that doesn’t go according to plan. It’s a noir-style kind of story that features a Yakuza-like melee combat, wrapped in various investigative segments to piece together the story. Since this is still within the realm of Yakuza, it’s only natural to expect mini games as Lost Judgment will feature activities such as skateboarding, school fights, racing, and all sorts of activities to distract the player.
There’s more games to look out for this month as it feels like there’s a good variety of games that can cover whatever you feel like experiencing in the month of September. To name, there is Warioware: Get it Together (September 10) if you want something fun and quirky to play with friends; Kena: Bridge of Spirits (September 21) for those looking for something that isn’t a sequel; Diablo II Resurrection (September 23) if you want to relive a classic; New World (September 28) if you’re hoping to find a new game to satisfy that MMO itch.
